Snooker – The Rules

Filed under: General Knowledge — admin @ 10:33 pm

The aim of a game of snooker is to score more points than your opponent in each frame played. The number of frames varies depending on the match, however generally matches are played over an odd number of frames.

The games should be played on a snooker table measuring six feet by twelve feet. Birmingham Billiards handcraft a wide range of snooker tables to these specifications.

You score points by potting a red ball, and then a coloured ball of your preference. Each coloured ball scores a different number of points. Once a coloured ball has been potted this is then placed back on the table until all red balls have been potted. There are 15 reds on the table at the beginning of the game

Ball Point Values
Red - 1 point
Yellow – 2 points
Green - 3 points
Brown - 4 points
Blue - 5 points
Pink - 6 points
Black - 7 points

Once all red balls have been potted, the coloured balls should be potted in the above order.

Points can also be accumulated when your opponent fouls, the following fouls are possible:
• Failing to hit the ball the player aimed for.
• Should a ball jump from the table.
• Potting the white ball (the cue ball)
• No lower than four points and no higher than seven.
• Potting a ball that the payer was not supposed to pot.
• Should the player push the cue ball against another close ball, which causes the cue to touch the white more than once.

Should the frame be tied the players must player a black ball game, in which the player that pots the black ball wins.

For a player to win they should win more frames than their opponent.
