Ali Carter Claims Second Professional Title

After being defeated by O’Sullivan in the World Championship, Carter wins Huangshan Cup Title beating Marco Fu 5 – 3 in China.
Carter was invited to the event at the last minute when O’Sullivan withdrew. After Carter took a 2 – 0 lead, Fu levelled at 3 – 3 with a total clearance of 139.

Once Carter has secured the 2 final frames, he moved to a career high of 7th in the world rankings.

Ding Junhui, China’s number 1 was beaten in the semi finals 5 – 3. He has donated his £10,000 prize to the fund set up for victims of the Sichuan earthquake. Earlier today (23/05/08) the earthquake death toll jumped again, 55,239 people are now known to have died when over five million buildings collapsed.

O’Sullivan claims his third World Snooker Championship crown

At 32 years old O’Sullivan joins Stephen Hendry, Steve Davis and Mark Williams as a player who has won both the World Title and UK Championship in the same season, whilst clinching the number one spot in the rankings by defeating Ali Carter in the World Championship title.

After securing the two frames he needed O’Sullivan went on to beat Carter by 18–8. O’Sullivan always looked in control of the match and had led 11-5 overnight.

O’Sullivan has been in excellent form during the Championship, firing a commendable 147 when beating Mark Williams in the second round with 12 century breaks. O’Sullivan played a stunning victory against crucible champion Hendry in the semi final, 17-6.

O’Sullivan admits his form slipped in the final, however with this title under his belt he looks to go forward in his winnings.
