12 year old Snooker Referee

Filed under: Snooker news — admin @ 4:00 pm

The Scottish Open final between John Higgins and Marcus Campbell was officiated by the World’s youngest ever Snooker referee. Dylan Craig is just twelve years old, and has already officiated at the highest level, with the current World Champion.
Glaswegian Dylan refereed the final, where John Higgins defeated Marcus Campbell to walk away with the £1,000 first prize.
Even though he’s too young to even enter most Snooker halls, Dylan knows what he wants to do when he gets a little older. His passion for Snooker is undeniable, and he confessed to being nervous during some of the games he has refereed.
I love refereeing. The first couple of times that I looked after a match it was quite hard to get used to it. I was nervous and it was difficult because I have to watch what is happening on the table as well as keeping the score.
The hardest thing is to keep concentration, especially in some of the longer matches.
As well as refereeing, Dylan is also quite a promising player and practises his game at the same Snooker club in Scotland where John Higgins plays. Dylan is ranked number three in Scotland for his age group, and has a personal best break of 88.
John Higgins himself heaped the praise on Dylan when he said:
Dylan was brilliant in the final. You wouldn’t have known there was a 12-year-old keeping score. I have played him and he is a great young player as well.
